Thumb Drift Is A Stupidly Addictive Car Game For Your Phone

We've been putting countless hours into Thumb Drift when we should be doing work, and have decided it's the most addictive mobile game built for petrolheads in a very long time

Mobile gaming is now a massive business, and while mainstream media still typically focuses on the big glossy titles like Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo, the real time-sapping games are on mobile. When Thumb Drift landed on our phones last week, we hit download quicker than you can yank a handbrake, because mind-blowingly addictive petrolhead-focused mobile games are surprisingly rare.

The basic premise of Thumb Drift is incredibly simple - there’s no storyline, no championships to navigate through, just good old-fashioned gameplay. When you start you’ll have access to one car and one track, but the more you play, the more coins you’ll gather, gaining access to more cars and more tracks as you do so. It’s as simple as that.

As is often the case, by keeping it simple, Thumb Drift has made itself super addictive. To control the car, you slide your thumb across the screen - slide your thumb to the right to kick the back out for left turns, and vice versa for right turns. The best way to think of it is like Temple Run with cars, and like with that classic game, you have no idea why but you just have to keep coming back for more.

It’s frustratingly difficult at first, but learning to control your ride and linking drifts becomes intuitive pretty quickly, and as you earn new cars you’ll quickly find your favourites - we’re naturally drawn to a red roadster by the name of Phil, for some reason. There are more than 50 cars available, all of which bear an uncanny resemblance to real cars, but with enough difference to keep the lawyers at bay.

Thumb Drift is available on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store right now, and best of all it won’t cost you a penny - for that privilege there are a few pesky ads to contend with, but they’re not too intrusive. Hit the comments to show us your best scores!
