Turbo Bug Dragster Is Herbie's 8Sec Evil Twin
Well played, guys. We showed you what 0-62mph in 1.2sec looks like last week, and asked if you could think of an even crazier drag car launch. It was a big challenge, but you rose to it - and here's one of the best examples: a turbocharged, rotary-engined VW Beetle.
Here's the big bad Bug running an eight second quarter mile, popping a rather nice wheelstand off the line too. Good work, driver.
So, the big question: how much power is this Super-VeeDub squirting out from its arse-mounted engine? And the answer is: we don't know. We don't think anybody does.
Seriously, here's the turbo-rotary-engine Beetle spooling up on a dyno run. The whole point of a dyno run is to nail down your power figures, but there are no published results from the Beetle. Did it break the dyno? Is it secretly more powerful than the Royal Navy? I'm betting on at least 900bhp to run 150mph quarter miles...
