The Two-Door Range Rover SV Coupe Has Been Canned

It was going to be the ultimate Range Rover. The fastest full-size version of Land Rover’s luxobarge, the coolest, and the most expensive. But it wasn’t to be.

The two-door Range Rover SV Coupe was revealed last year and given the green light for a production run of 999, but now Land Rover has confirmed that the vehicle has been cancelled.

In a statement, the company said:

“We have taken the difficult decision to inform our customers that the Range Rover SV Coupé will not proceed into production. Instead, Land Rover is focusing its resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products.”

JLR will be trying to cut £2.5 billion in costs over the next 18 months, part of which will involve the loss of 4500 jobs. It seems the SV Coupe is another casualty of the scheme.

The £240,000 SV Coupe wouldn’t have been the most frugal thing to make. Each was going to be hand-built at JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre in Warwickshire, and little of the bodywork was shared with the regular Range Rover - only the bonnet and tailgate were carried over.

The plan was to shove a 557bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet, meaning it would have still done 0-62mph in five seconds dead and top out at 165mph, despite the hefty weight figure.

We’ve no doubt it would have been a wonderful thing on many levels, so its demise is a massive shame.

Did anyone even buy them?

Or preorder them?

Or shown interest?

It’s been reported elsewhere that JLR is saying the move isn’t due to lack of interest (although this wasn’t mentioned in the statement we’ve been sent)

Was so pleased when this was announced that we would get a properly elegant Range Rover to shadow all of its rivals. Such a shame.

The idea of having a 2-door SUV of this size is ridiculous, but at least you have to give them credit where credit is due - they know how many doors a coupé has.

I like the idea of a big coupe a-la Lexus SC/BMW 8-series

Technically, that Rangie is a 3-door car. Same to me as this Golf, and still not a coupé.

I personally love the idea of a 2 door SUV

I like oxymorons such as the Range Rover or the Jeep Wrangler. Stuff that should be more practical but really aren’t

JLR had one on display at Goodwood last year. It was a lovely looking thing in person.

at least this time a coupe actually has 2 doors.
But look at it, simply deleting 2 rear doors is ridiculous. If it’s going to be an ugly SUV, may as well get 2 more doors….

Looks like an OG Rangie to me lol.

Damn… I’ve seen one (pre-production prototype) on the road, so this is a very late decision. JLR are going through hard times with ‘diesel gate’, Brexit looming, and slowing sales in China.

If they made things like this it will become a trend and people will stop buying coupes
