Uber Is Now Introducing Autonomous Rides For Passengers

Making its debut in Pittsburgh, Uber is introducing autonomous Volvo XC90s into its fleet for testing as a viable option for the company. The modified Volvos - which have been developed by the same people that worked on the Google Car - will be accompanied by human supervisors during the trial.

The main goal for the company is to see the one million human Uber drivers replaced by their robot counterparts in the next few years, as the removal of a human from driving is apparently a ‘natural progression’ for the company.

Summoning the automated cars via the mobile app, customers won’t have to put up with any awkward taxi driver chat and will instead sit back and let the radar-guided vehicle transport them to their destination.

Uber Is Now Introducing Autonomous Rides For Passengers

100 cars are to be produced by the end of the year after a $300 million deal between Volvo and Uber. With Tesla already producing self-driving cars and Ford announcing its plans to develop a similar system in the near future, it seems like the ‘chore’ of driving is slowly being wiped from the face of the Earth.
