Ultimate 'Rents Car: Mazda6 Hits UK

Mazda's new 'Dad's Taxi' will be shown as a sleek estate model in Paris later this month. Ford and Vauxhall should be worried

We recently reported on the highly anticipated Mazda6 with an aptly-titled piece "Bringing Sexy Back". Making its debut at the Moscow motor show last month, the new model is aimed to embody Mazda’s commitment to ‘stylish design and powerful efficiency’ and to reflect its latest design theme, ‘Kodo, Soul of Motion’.

It's time to give you another update: rumours say it’s likely the UK market will see additional models. Mazda claims the saloon is streamlined enough to not necessitate a hatchback version, but is said to be featuring an estate model at the Paris motor show in September, which we will of course be attending. All versions are expected to have a front-end similar to the CX-5, including a shapely, stepped bonnet, large grille and sleek headlights.

Mazda is also embracing their SKYACTIV technology; implementing a lightweight modular chassis as well as a range of clean gasoline and diesel engines. Two new Skyactiv engines that were previously introduced in the CX-5 will also be offered. The 165hp 2.0-litre petrol engine will be made available in both six-speed automatic and manual transmissions. The 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine in 150hp and 175hp are also expected to be offered in UK models. With just 104g/km of CO2, Mazda claims the new 6 is as economical as hybrids without the need for an unsightly EV battery.

Mazda hopes the new model will serve as a flagship for their next generation of products and begin to lure customers away from popular brands like Ford and Vauxhall. The Mazda6 strives to ensure a car abundant with style, luxury and safety without compromising the sharp and spirited performance you’ve come to expect from their vehicles.

With UK prices expected to start around £18,500 and going on sale in Winter 2013, this could be the ultimate car for your rents!
