Developed by RedDotGames and published by PlayWay S.A, Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 was released earlier this year to satisfy your car repair urges. The game lets you play the life of a mechanic by taking customer orders and repairing their cars in one of three garages. Get the job done on time and you’ll earn cash. With this money you can buy more parts or repair manuals to help you get through future repairs.

The beginning of each repair starts with reading a new repair order to determine what may be needed. The customers’ descriptions can help you narrow down the possible issues, but can sometimes be quite vague. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever worked in a shop where customers describe some “funny noise coming from beneath the car” and think that by some magical powers you know exactly what’s wrong with it.

Inspect the car from different camera angles and lift it to take a look at the under carriage. Check the condition of each part in question and make your diagnosis. You may need to run an OBD scan or refer to a repair manual first.

Order the necessary parts or pull them from your inventory. Ordering the wrong part or making the wrong changes to the vehicle will leave you with less money, and you will be forced to spend more time on the repair.

If there’s one thing in the game that drives some people crazy, it’s removing and replacing parts. You must use your virtual tools and click to loosen or tighten the individual bolts that secure a part. You had better hope you removed the right part, or else you waste more time putting things back together (just like in real life). On the bright side, you always have the correct wrench size in hand so you don’t have to wander the shop looking for a misplaced tool.

Maybe one of the nicer elements of the game is the ability to take the car out for a test drive. The driving mechanics of the game certainly are not the best, but it is not intended to be a racing game. Test driving helps with diagnosing a few problems or checking out the changes you make when chip tuning. If a repair has got you angry, you can always try wrecking or flipping the car to make you feel better, though this is better saved for gaming only as it is frowned upon in real life.

CMS 2014 has over 120 different repairs gradually increasing in difficulty with each of the 75 levels. The newly-released 4x4 vehicle package offers even more challenges for when you get done conquering the base game. The game rewards you with a small hatchback car at the end of career mode and unlocks an endless mode in which you can work on as many cars as you want and use your hard earned cash to build a better performing machine.

As for next year’s release, he tells us that everyone’s feedback has been heard and used to make something truly special for the gamers.
