Unlike The Old One, The 2014 Grand Cherokee Won't Try To Kill You During Moose Avoidance

Back in 2012, Swedish motoring magazine Teknikens Värld borrowed a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They headed to a runway to carry out the infamous 'moose test', which simulates a real-world obstacle avoidance situation.

The test - designed to establish which cars can handle the quick changes in direction safely - were successfully completed by the Volkswagen Toureg and Volvo XC90; the Jeep failed with flying colours.

At speeds of just 61kph (38mph), the Grand Cherokee jumped up on two wheels, almost rolling over. The video went viral, so Jeep engineers travelled to Sweden to sort it out. Once its crew had worked on the car's electronics and adjusted the ballast, similar results were observed, however, with seven tyres suffering blowouts over the course of the tests (video below).

Fortunately, as the video above demonstrates, Jeep engineers have learnt from previous mistakes. The 2014 Grand Cherokee now passes the moose test with flying colours.
