Update: All You Need To Know About The 592bhp 30th Anniversary BMW M5
Yesterday's leak gave us a glimpse of the new limited edition, 30th anniversary BMW M5, but now we're able to get a good look at the beast courtesy of BMW's official reveal. Dubbed '30 Jahre M5' (30 years of the M5), the first thing you'll notice is that rather lovely 'Frozen Dark Silver' matte finish that was absent from the leaked images.
The headline, though, is the power: as expected, the 30 Jahre gets a 40bhp boost over the already flipping fast M5, to give a total of 592bhp, plus a slight torque boost to give 516lb/ft. This has been achieved through the addition of the M5's optional Competition Package, plus an extra tweak to the engine management and an increase in turbo boost pressure.
There's been some jiggery pokery when it comes to the M5's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox too. That means the 0-62mph time has dropped to just 3.9 seconds, down from the Competition Package M5's 4.3 seconds. Spec the 'M Driver's Package,' and you'll top out at 189mph.
Other than the unique colour, the car is festooned with reminders that this is no ordinary M5. '30 Jahre' badges appear on the side gills and kick plates, while a plaque on the dashboard tells you the production number of the car, out of the 30 Jahre's 300-limited run. In case you miss all of those, '30 Jahre' is also stitched into the seat backrests. Thorough.
BMW is yet to reveal how many - if any - of the limited edition M5s will be coming to the UK. Pricing is also yet to be announced, but we'd expect a reasonable increase over the cost of an M5 with the Competition Package, which currently weighs in at £81,150.
UPDATE:
It's since been revealed that just 30 of these cars will be coming to the UK, priced at £91,890 each. We were also able to see the pre-production version at BMW UK HQ today (see picture below).
