Update: A Nissan GT-R Has Crashed Into The Spectator Area At The Nurburgring - One Dead, Several Injured
The shocking photo above shows the scene after Jann Mardenborough crashed his Nissan GT-R and cleared the catch fencing, landing in a spectator area. The race has been red flagged as emergency personnel attended to the injured.
Mardenborough is reportedly unhurt and out of the car, however it is believed that spectators were injured in the crash. BlackFlag has reported that the race will not be restarted, and that police are on the scene.

Sadly, VLN has confirmed that one spectator has died in the incident, with several others being treated for injuries. This is shocking news, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of everyone involved.

Nissan has released a statement:
“The car is reported to have left the track at the ‘Flugplatz’ section and vaulted the catch fencing, landing on its roof in a spectator area.
“Several spectators were injured in the incident and despite immediate efforts one of them succumbed to their injuries. The others have been taken immediately to hospital for care.
“The driver, Jann Mardenborough got out of the car and, after initial checks in the circuit Medical Centre, has been taken to hospital for further routine checks.
“Today’s events have been a tragedy. We are all deeply shocked and saddened by these events and our immediate thoughts go to the deceased, those injured and their families and friends.
“The team is fully co-operating with the race organisers to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into this incident.”

Footage has emerged of the incident, and it’s a shocking crash. Mardenborough’s GT-R gets air under it and is launched into the catch fencing floor-first.
