A US Army Surplus Humvee Could Be Yours For As Little As $10,000 (No Guns Included)

Once upon a time, ex-service versions of the United States’ iconic Humvee would be unceremoniously scrapped post-retirement. However, law changes mean that for the first time, a batch of these tough brutes - which have the less catchy official title of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) - will be going under the hammer. That’s right, Mr Joe Public will be able to rock up and purchase a military Hummer, with bids starting as low as $10,000.

According to the Army Times 4000 are due to be auctioned off soon, a batch of 25 up for grabs via an online auction taking place tomorrow. Condition varies greatly, as does the mileage: odometer readings range from as little as 1361 to as much as 38334 miles. And those miles will have likely been rather punishing ones.

If you’re tempted, there is a catch which you may find disappointing: you won’t be able to use one of these on the road. However, if you fancy an extreme four-wheel drive vehicle for a spot of mud plugging/desert bashing (or you’re one of those people that think a zombie apocalypse is imminent, rendering an ex-army 4x4 a handy thing to have), one of these would be a very cool thing to own.
