VATH Mercedes E63 AMG

Yeah, you know, because those guys at AMG are such a bunch of weenies and what the Mercedes E63 that AMG has breathed on needs is a thorough going over and more power. Enter the tuning firm Vath – or should I say VATH (in all caps)? Just what is it with German tuning firms?

Yeah, you know, because those guys at AMG are such a bunch of weenies and what the Mercedes E63 that AMG has breathed on needs is a thorough going over and more power. Enter the tuning firm Vath – or should I say VATH (in all caps)? Just what is it with German tuning firms? Why is it always in all caps?

Okay, so this is the E Class, which is Merc's mid-range ride. There is, however, nothing mid-range about what AMG did to it, nor what VATH did more to it. VATH Automobiltechnik (that would be their full name, and isn't it just adorable?) pumped up everything and also went and added even more aggressive bodywork then before.

VATH says that their reworked E-Class E63 AMG is " ... exactly the right choice for those who like adrenaline rush." And it would also seem to be "exactly the right choice" for those with huge wallets as well. Example: The wheels. Gigantic 20” forged three-part alloy rims with 245/30-20 or 285/25-20 high performance tires go for 8,211.00 Euro a set.

There is, of course, a body kit. A boot spoiler lip that goes for 333.00 Euros (VATH is really up front with their pricing, by the way). There's a carbon-diffuser for 1,773.00 Euros and they have naturally, worked over the front as well. A carbon front apron that will run you 1,416.00 Euros.

VATH has seen fit to lower the airmatics suspension by about 30 mm (Euro 821.00), but I always worry when people start using the word "about" when talking suspension adjustments. Maybe that's just me, but I like to be a little more accurate with stuff like that.

The engine? Ah yes, das mill. In the case of the VATH Mercedes E63 AMG said plant puts out 605 hp, and 690 Nm of grunt and is good for a maximum speed of 340 km/h. The engine work will set you back 19.635,00 Euros, but will also get you from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. For that price you get special forged pistons, valves, sport cam shafts, big intake and exhaust valves, and the crank drive has been improved, the cylinder head channels have been enlarged and the engine software has been updated.

Inside there's lots and lots and lots of carbon fiber interior bits and velour floor mats. And almost as an afterthought, VATH lets you know that they've worked the brakes over as well: 390 mm brake discs and with 8 pistons fixed caliper for the front axle that will set you back Euro 5,355.00.
