Vauxhall Has Hiked The Maloo Up To A Bonkers 529bhp
The Maloo could never be accused of being anything other than a welcome dose of insanity in an ever-more sensible world. Packing an LS3 V8 and, with an empty bed, pretty much no weight over the rear wheels, its 425bhp was more than enough to earn it a reputation as a wild child. Well now we need a whole new dictionary of hyperbolisms, because the refreshed Maloo now gets a supercharged LSA V8 engine making 529bhp and 494lb ft of torque.
The unit is essentially the same as that found in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 but with a slight retune. On forced-induction duty is an Eaton four-lobe supercharger, and a new high-flow exhaust system and a stand-alone water-to-air charge-air cooling system now also feature. To tame that extra kick, spring and damper rates have been stiffened to reduce body roll, and a unique rear suspension module has been fitted to improve rear stiffness. Launch control (in manual only) and a limited-slip differential now come as standard.
So if you like the prospect of launching from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds in a pickup truck that could carry half a tonne of stuff in the back, you’ll need to find £54,500 for this updated Vauxhall Maloo. We can’t think of a more hilarious way to destroy rear tyres.

This has been a HSV for over a year in Australia. It’s called the GEN-F.
Its the newer version the GEN-F2 “ VF series 2”
Um………… there are also Ludicrously powerful station wagons (estate cars) that are about the same size and can also be a sleeper. Cough Mercedes E63 AMG S wagon cough AUDI RS6 cough
Yeah I Love this Holden VF II…Stuff your Vauhxall badge! And what the hell is the go with the Chevy Super Sport?? It’s a Holden! Aussie made for you USA guys who want real power!
So you guys are just getting what is technically the Maloo GTS?
Also absolutely wrong term: ‘pick-up truck’, correct term: “Ute”
No it’s a gen f2 R8. The lsa is now standard across the whole range
As much as Top Gear loves their portable drift machine, I’m not sure what audience this burnout-fest would go to. They’re not the type of people who wanna do burnouts down the street, then go take it off road for the sake of it for more burnouts, then be able to put all the work tools in the back the next morning, with some slightly more cooked tyres. Not like us here in straya
I had one doing burnouts outside my house in Australia last night… This is a regular occurrence that I don’t want to stop
Earl approves of your wicked fast El Camino.
This just reminded me of Top Gear UK VS Top Gear AU when Hammond smoked the guy’s Maloo in a Ford Transit van powered by a Jaguar XJ220 engine. Lol
Mate had an HSV maloo. Rear tyres lasted 3 weeks. Was a good way to go broke.
Straya mate, makes the best utes, with awesome engine combos. Vauxhall just stick on a badge and walk away, while we Aussies engineer it and create the damn thing and we get no recognition. What is the world coming to :(
