We often take supercar start-up ventures with a pinch of salt. Many make bold claims about LS V8-powered efforts that will take on the established manufacturers - and they almost always fail.

That’s not the case with the Vencer Sarthe, however, as it can be seen here getting put through its paces. Vencer’s boss, Robert Cobben, watched Le Mans as a kid and vowed to one day create his own version of those iconic prototypes. After selling his plumbing business a few years ago, he started work on making that dream a reality.

Under the bonnet is a Hennessey-tuned V8 making 622bhp and 618lb ft of torque. Cobben doesn’t believe in electronic aids, but asked for the V8’s power delivery to be as soft as possible to make the car manageable. But don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s slow: with a full carbonfibre body resulting in a weight of just 1470kg, it’ll do 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds and top out at 210mph.

The Sarthe will be made in extremely limited numbers, costing £250,000 a pop, so the video above might be your best chance of seeing it in action.
