I don’t. It’s so much out of place in a normal passenger car (as in non-sports car). The last five cylinder Volvo sold, the D3/D4 engine in the V60, was a great engine, but the turbo lag is a freaking joke in a car like this. I don’t want to step on the throttle just to have to wait another second or two until something happens.
In a old Turbo Porsche or a Cossie, where it has a certain charme, okay. I can behind that. But turbo lag in a normal passenger car in 2017? Please not.
I’ll miss not dying in intersections.
I think Audi’s electric supercharger works almost the same, right?
I don’t think that the Audi system is storing compressed air, it’s rather producing it every time when it’s needed. Like when you hit the throttle over 50% or so.
While some workship lag for being exciting and explosive, I hate turbo lag.
IKR
Why don’t they just use an electric compressor? In most cars, you don’t really need boost most of the time, so the compressor can switch off and let the engine act N/A while recharging the battery when braking. Then when you floor it, the compressor activates to give you the boost. Since there are no turbines after the engine, it doesn’t suffer from the sound problems that many turbo engines have.
This is actually really old EE P.S. Shameless plug, I have/had a vid on this topic a few months ago xD
Yeah it apeared in my facebook memories last week oddly enough… Its 2 years old
Nice… If someone ever makes a car with an insane amount of lag, it should have Volvo’s anti lag system + an anti lag toggle switch 😂😂😂
This means something…
If Volvo had no chill: Lets fit ALL our new turboed cars with anti lag! So our customers can feel even more safe by letting off the gas and scaring off any baddies with a few gunshots.
But not that kind of anti lag my dude
Another insanely expensive part to change every 50’000km. :D
