The VW Golf GTI Clubsport S Just Went Around The 'Ring Even Damn Faster
VW has just sliced two seconds off its existing Clubsport S laptime, breaking its own front-wheel drive Nurburgring record in the process
As if pinching the Honda Civic Type R’s front-wheel drive Nurburgring lap record wasn’t enough, VW has just improved its personal best with the Clubsport S. The already very impressive 07min 49.21sec lap has been improved by just over two seconds with the 306bhp, two-seater lightweight special clocking a 07min 47.19sec effort.
Your move, Honda…
Comments
VW needs a special edition plus and extra attempt to beat the Honda record. meh
Honda will come back ;)
Honda set that record with the Mugen type R didn’t they?
Pretty sure that’s a limited special edition…
Due to budget cuts, VW are forced to use a potato to film their lap
It seems to rotate really well. My Mk5 does the same when lifting off before corner entry, but you have to use left foot to brake and right foot to accelerate.
Hondas gonna need a lot more fart cans new.lawn mower blades and lots of vtec and stickers to beat that
What are the rules on tires for ring times? Are the tires the same as the production car?
35k for 2 seater Golf that is faster with only 2 seconds that the type-r ‘which did it’s lap time in worse tarmac conditions back in 2014. VW are laughable
They took out the rear seats to make the car lighter and therefore faster around the track. I know a guy who did the same with his E36 M3…
Fine record.
But what I am wondering about is the text displayed on the top of the video, and I quote (with the grammer mistakes):
“The pictured Golf Clubsport S is not for sale any more yet and therefore is not subject to rule 1994/94/EG“
So did they change the engine management? Maybe a little bit more fuel, advanced ignition timing, higher rev limiter, a bit more boost?
I’m not suggesting anything, but to me it is weird to see that comment on top without getting suspicious.
Oh and before you say “he drives a Honda”, I would have said the same if they have done that.
Just sitting here waiting for the RS to come along
I really don’t get the hate over VW, couldn’t just admire the fact that there are FWD hatchbacks capable of a time under 8 mins at the ‘ring?
