Less than 90 minutes into the 2014 Nurburgring 24h endurance race, Marc Basseng lost control of his Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS Ultra at high speed. Despite a long yellow flag period to allow paramedics to attend to him, the German later confirmed he was okay. After a precautionary trip in the back of an ambulance, he said:

Unfortunately, I’ve had a serious accident in the Hohenrein section in the first hour of the race. I’m fine and I would like to thank the DMSB crew, the track marshals and the RTW crew for their support. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Phoenix and Audi and let’s hope for the victory.
