Watch A Bugatti Veyron Slam Into Barriers After A 208mph Run

This Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse driver simply didn't slow down enough after topping 200mph on a closed runway, with expensive results

This is a bit of a weird one, isn’t it? Shot by YouTuber LK Horizon from the passenger seat of a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, it shows the moment the driver - for whatever reason - failed to slow down after a 208mph trip down a closed runway. The incident happened last year, although this footage has only just been released.

The man behind the wheel attempted to turn at the end - rather than proceed into the run-off area - and understeered straight into a set of barriers. By that time plenty of speed had been scrubbed off so the impact wasn’t the most severe, but even so, the Vitesse is seen wearing damage on its front bumper and wings. Since this is a Bugatti, the cost of fixing even minor damage like this is going to be horrifically expensive.

The uploader had the following to say about the crash:

“The owner just didn’t brake enough. I don’t know what was going through his mind, but he just didn’t use the runoff area. Honestly I don’t think he realised how fast he was going when he began to turn.”

Perhaps the sheer acceleration of the Veyron just warped the driver’s perception - hitting 208mph in such a short distance has the potential to do that, after all. And anyway, it could have been worse - listen to this Bugatti test driver describe having a tyre blowout at 245mph

We use MPH like every other UK-based car publication. It’s what our speed limits are measured in. Chill.

No it doesn’t. It looks like a MaxPower add on. Don’t elevate Bugatti beyond criticism, just because it’s a Bugatti. Classy always wins over garish.

Some may blame him, but imo, total respect for driving the car the way its supposed to be - shame that it manages to mask speed so much that the driver made a mistake that any of us could have made

I can’t stress enough about learning your car before you do these things. Half throttle run, early brake run and and a planned run. These things are always driver errors caused by ignorance, unlike a blowout. If you would like to do high speed things that have a chance of endagering anyone and yourself learn how to do it properly or dont do it at all. It’s not a mistake a normal high speed driver makes because the majority of people who do this have more than 3 brain cells and less than $200,000 in weekly allowance

Literally all he had to do was break earlier. It was a careless mistake. The One:1 has gone 250 here and slowed down with plenty of time

Poor guy, he now has to pay $500,000 for just that front bumper…

I’d leave it for the time being, knowing you can (within reason) not really cost yourself much more if you do something similar. Can always spend the money and fix it up later…

It looks to me like the driver didn’t see the barrier in the first place, he noticed it at the last moment and didn’t have time to react much. Cuz you can see he’s going fast and turned at the last moment.

Or he wanted to show off how fast he can go round a corner, and well, as expected, failed pretty badly

That’s true. I don’t think he was showing off, either. At least he’s driving the car like it’s supposed to be driven!
