Watch As A Charging Tesla Model S Is Consumed By Fire

A few days ago, images of the smouldering remains of a Tesla Model S emerged. This video footage shows the fire which consumed it

It’s a fairly nightmarish start to the year if you go back to your charging electric vehicle, only to find it engulfed in flames. Particularly if the vehicle in question is a pricey Tesla.

That’s exactly what happened to one unfortunate Model S owner in Brokelandsheia, Norway, with a catastrophic fire reducing the car to a smouldering shell and destroying part of the Supercharger it was hooked up to. This video footage of the fire has since emerged, and it makes for painful viewing.

Since this is an electric car, local firefighters had to use foam, rather than water, to extinguish the flames. And since the Model S uses a large quantity of batteries made from lithium - a rather flammable substance - the fire was difficult to extinguish.

One silver lining is that no one was injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

I dont like electric cars because of personal preferences, but both electric and petrol (and other fossil fuels) cars can catch on fire. For electric car you need a flaw in manufacture and for petrol car you usually need a fuel leak (or similiar) which can happen easily.

Usually that’s not what happens and that’s what should not happen.. Why do you think that would happen when you don’t unplug the charger though?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I always thought foam is used to extinguish cars with ordinary engines as well…

I believe CO2 is used for combustion engines since they have oil, petrol/diesel and putting foam over it wouldnt do much. But I’ve seen foam aswell, not sure why to be fair.
