Watch An F1 Car Blast Through A Busy City As Part Of A Loud Publicity Stunt

To promote its 2016 Gumball 3000 entry, Team Betsafe charged through Manchester in the 'F1 car' it'll be bringing to parts of the rally

If you’re thinking ‘bringing a single-seater racing car on the Gumball Rally doesn’t sound terribly practical’ you’d have a point. That’s why ‘Team Betsafe’ will be bringing the shouty little monster only to “select UK locations” rather than on the whole trip.

It’s not strictly speaking an F1 car, but was “built…in collaboration with top Formula 1 experts from Only The Fast” and is powered by the Ferrari Type 056 2.4-litre V8 used by the Scuderia team in the 2009 season. In this particular car it produces 631bhp (from the sounds of it the unit doesn’t rev quite as high as it did in its F1 days), propelling the 640kg machine from 0-60mph in two seconds dead. It even includes a KERS system, as well as a Sauber F1 steering wheel.

As to whether or not this little run through Manchester was legal, we’ll let you speculate…

Any intel if this was even remotely legal? I’d doubt even rich people like themselves would risk getting the car seized.

Well, if I lived in UK, I certainly wouldn’t care if it’s legal or not!

Dunno about you, but I heard 4 different engines from the Formula throughout the video… I wouldn’t rely on the sounds in this video to speculate on the engine tuning.. we’ll have to wait for the Gumball 3000 to really know what it sounds like!

Na, It’s open wheel and looked like it was on slicks, match that with no lights, indicators ect. Plus i’m not sure what the legality of driving with a helmet in england is, but I’m gonna say who cares if it’s legal, it’s so awesome!

Not gonna lie, I’d do the same if I had a F1 car. Just saying.
