Watch This Formula Renault Youngster Get Some Seriously Scary Air

Formula Renault driver Andrea Pizzitola gets some air in a scary high speed crash

Formula Renault is the first step on the ladder to Formula 1 eventual greatness. So with a packed grid of young, enthusiastic drivers, incidents are a common occurrence.

That is exactly what happened when French youngster Andrea Pizzitola took the wheel during the second Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 race at the Paul Ricard circuit.

As the race came to a close, Pizzitola was obviously eager to make up positions after finishing 19th in the first race of the weekend. He positioned himself to the right along the main straight to overtake the car in front, but his competitor went the same way and there was contact.

His ART car went airborne, with all four wheels momentarily off the ground, before colliding heavily with the barrier and coming to rest on the run-off area. Ouch!

It was a lucky escape; the crash could've been a lot worse, but fortunately Formula Renault cars are very tough and Pizzitola was able to walk away from the incident unscathed.
