I’ll be “that guy” and say all that really matters is who had the most torque they could put down to the ground (via grip). The Audi probably weighs more, and since it has its TC systems on is less like to slip. I saw that BMW spinning its tires like there was no tomorrow. Didn’t matter if it were X-drive, Quattro, Symmetical AWD, etc. Grip will always give you the win, and 8/10 times betting on the heavier car will let you win.
It’s actually an A3 sedan so it weighs about 100-200 kgs less than the BMW 3 series with a straight 6 approx. It’s also using a Haldex AWD, which can only send about 50% to the rear when the front wheels slip. Means a 50/50 distribution in that case. This, the traction control and the heavy foot of the BMW driver made the Audi win imho
Just adding to your point, on snow, tires matter even more then torque. Torque is useless if there is no grip
Truth has been spoken. I don’t even want to look at the sh*tstorm that is probably taking place below.
Also, depends on tyres a lot But whatever - this is just for fun, we shouldn’t be that strict
‘grip’ cough
TRACTION.
i think audi will win im bmw fanboy tho
Quatttroooo
But with traction control ON? What happened then?
There must be a reason that they turnt it off
That’s not a real Quattro just saying
quattro… Just saying :-)
The little Audis(A1, A3) don’t have ‘real’ Quattro, they have the VW system with a Haldex coupling. They also have the engine mounted transversly, like most front wheel drive cars. The A4 on the other hand has it’s engine mounted longitudinally, and has the same Quattro system as the A6 and A8, which can be permanent 4WD. The Haldex system is always front-wheel drive except when the front wheels lose traction.
In this kind of pulls with almost full throttle it doesn’t matter traction control…Audi would win probably it does have a better system but to be fair it needs the same tyres.
If the audi has the traction control on and the bmw off…then the audi has no chance… The TC will cut all it’s power instantly while the bmw will spin but will put more power on the road. TC is good for the unexpected but not for this case…
Well not really, it depends on TC program. My sig does not take power away for like couple seconds, letting the wheels sping, jamming the brakes on the rotating wheel.
BMW held well considerin Quattro’s reputation and it having TC on.
The Audi is underpowered compared to the 3 series but Quattro still showed whos boss!

Audi!!
Spoiler much!
