Watching This Tether Car Hit 205mph Will Blow Your Mind

Cars that can hit 200mph are no new thing these days. All you need is a huge engine, bags of money and a long enough runway. Heck, we've even seen a Mercedes SL63 AMG hit 210mph on a public road this week.

So when this amazing 205mph Tether car video from 2011 resurfaced on Top Gear, we knew you needed to see it too.

Tether cars - for those of whom are unfamiliar - are model race cars powered by tiny engines of between 0.0015 and 0.01-litres. Unlike remote controlled cars, TCs are tethered to a central post and are not controlled by remote. Their size (depending on category) range from between 30cm and 60cm in length and are typically around 8cm wide. Their aerodynamic bodies comprise of lightweight magnesium and aluminum.

The Tether car in the video below - we're guessing a 0.01-litre model - hits an unholy 205mph at 91G (9mph short of the current 214mph world record).

Impressive as that is, it's witnessing how the car screams its way to that speed that will really make your jaws drop to the floor in disbelief. As one YouTuber correctly comments: 'Spin two cars in opposing directions and you've got a poor man's Large Hadron Collider.'
