This Is What Happens When You Put Snow Chains On An F1 Car And Send It Up A Ski Slope
Red Bull Racing is always pushing the boundaries with its Formula 1 demonstration runs, and it took things to new levels by letting Max Verstappen loose on an Austrian ski slope with a special snow-liveried RB7.
The 18-year-old Toro Rosso F1 driver entertained crowds with a icy run up the Hahnenkamm mountain, on the famous Streif ski course in Kitzbühel.
It was a big challenge to prepare the car and transport it to the location. The RB7 was lifted by helicopter to the top of the slope and ran with studded tyres and snow chains.
The RB7 featured a higher ride height than usual (for obvious reasons) and also featured a special, snow-themed livery, which debuted new sponsors TAG-Heuer and Puma.
With an altitude of 1600 metres and temperatures well below freezing, the snowy demo run on Thursday is certainly one of the most unusual in F1 history (and a rare sight on the ski slopes, much like this Audi R8 V10 hoon in Sweden).
Verstappen completed several drive-bys and donuts, describing it as “very challenging” and “a bit scary”.
