This Is What Happens When Your Brakes Fail While Racing On Sebring At 170mph
Joel Miller’s No.70 Mazda RT24-P made an early exit from the Sebring 12 Hours in scary style when the car’s brakes failed while going 170mph – a fresh race suit was probably needed after that…
Miller’s Mazda prototype suffered brake failure on the run to the tight Turn 17, something you never want to happen – let alone on the fast run to a slow corner.
He started to take the corner before realising something was up and the car wasn’t slowing down, so he went straight and through the run-off area.
Fortunately, there was plenty of tarmac to scrub off some speed he still piled into the tyre barrier. Miller was OK and amazingly Mazda was able to get the car back out on track 40 laps down, but it later retired.
The No.10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi of Jordan Taylor, Ricky Taylor and Alex Lynn – on his IMSA debut – took victory at the Sebring 12 Hours.
