What It's Like Having A Mad Turbocharged Car That's Not Been Mapped Yet
My MX-5 underwent heart and brain surgery recently during which a turbo and new ECU were installed (full build video coming tonight!). However, because the car hasn't been mapped yet, I feel like a horny teenager again...
You spend two days fitting the turbo and ECU
When you're done, you high-five anyone around
Then it's time to start the engine for the first time
SUCCESS! She runs, and runs well
You rev the engine and the turbo sounds insane!
You can't wait to get it out on the road...
But hold on! The ECU's not been mapped properly yet
Fear begins to build as you realise you need to drive home in an hour
If you push the engine too hard, it could blow
Nevertheless, you stroke the accelerator and are blown away
But until the ECU's mapped, it might as well be N/A
Make sure you subscribe to the Car Throttle YouTube channel and download the CT Android app so you don’t miss tonight’s epic Project MX-5 live turbo build video!
I’ll be back at Skuzzle next week to get the MX-5 mapped and dyno tested. Then, I’ll get to see what 240hp (est) is like in a one-tonne hairdresser’s car.

I’ve been around freshly boosted cars and I always imagine them grenadeing if I do a forced induction swap I’m going straight to a dyno ASAP
