This Is What A Mk4 Mazda MX-5 Coupe Would Look Like
Last night we attended the official unveiling of the new MX-5 Miata in Barcelona. Mazda was able to keep the car’s details and design under wraps pre-launch, but not even 12 hours after the event, Photoshopped images of both a coupe and a widebody version of the sports car have appeared online.
The above image shows a hard-roofed, coupe version of the MX-5. Mazda has told us that the roadster is lighter than the previous generation vehicle thanks to SkyActiv design which sees the bonnet, front wings and boot made from aluminium. All told, the car is expected to weigh around 100kgs less than the outgoing MX-5.
The render shows hints of Honda S2000 around the nose and BMW E85 Z4 around the rear haunches. Of course, Mazda has only ever made one hard-top variant of the Mk2 MX-5, so the chances of this render appearing in production form are slim.
Also seen online is this Mk4 MX-5 with a widebody kit, created by Car Throttle user Javier Oquendo. The new MX-5 is already 10mm wider than the Mk3, but this widebody kit sees the car lowered and widened even further, with a new front bumper housing larger air intakes. Javier gave this lowered MX-5 Enkei RPF1 wheels and spent five hours creating the design in Photoshop.
