Why All Petrol heads should drive a manual

So it is nearing the end of 2016, and it looks like the manual has reached a trend, many more manufacturers are pulling the plug on the beloved 3 pedal stick for the more “friendly” choice of automatic, in other words, the choice for your average grocery getter, visits to the tanning salons and the choice for rolling up to your local vegan joint. But that’s not what this article is about, it is here to celebrate the 3 pedal stick, the holy grail of the petrol head, The manual transmission
Okay, so for us petrol heads, the only thing more satisfying than a nice, clean, upshift is a nice clean downshift whether it is just a rev match or a heel toe, there is just a satisfaction when you go into the next gear whether it is higher or lower and have it go in like a hot knife through butter, but it is quite satisfying, literally the equivalent of every satisfying thing put together into one.
With more and more manufacturers pulling the plug on the beloved manual and going with the auto, or the performance equivalent, the dual clutch. The manual is still there raising it’s flag like the true champ that it is, many performance cars only come in with the manual option, including the Doge Viper
….I mean the Dodge Viper ACR, which currently holds 13 Major track records for production cars, beating the P1 and the 918, Manual win much?
Driving a manual provides a satisfaction like no other, especially when all the techniques are done right and in a fashionable manner. Simply rowing through the gears like a dummy chump won’t do you any good unless you have some finesse and not be like this guy
If done right you would look like this
But feel quite like this….
Truth is, if your face doesn’t look like this while you’re driving, it is most likely that you are driving the wrong car, by that i mean you are driving an automatic.
And not to mention, it is the safest way to make sure that your car won’t get stolen, if you live in the states, where only the highest class of car thieves know how to drive it, and not to mention, if you get car jacked, there’s a high chance they’ll stall the car, giving you a chance to save your pride and joy from being driven like a race car by someone other than you.
Not to mention that you won’t have a bae, but that’s okay because you’ll be too busy rowing through the gears to remember anyone anyways.
Bottom line, drive a manual, as soon as you can, because if you have any interest, any real interest in cars, you would fall in love with it like all of us have.

However, a manual Rolls Royce would be horrible
To be completely honest with you, I can’t imagine driving a manual hypercar nowadays. Cars like the LaFerrari, 918 or the P1 are simply superior with an automatic/ flappy paddles transmission. When it comes to more classic/retro cars I’d stick with the stick (pun intended), but new sports car are imo better with a quick automatic transmission.
Manual is a must for me. My only car is a manual but if i get the chance to get a 2nd car, ill go for a boring automatic for daily boring stuff
thats me my main commute to work car is a 2011 challenger v6 (only comes in auto) and my cruise car is a Srt viper gts (only come in Manual )
Manual = leg ache from hell in traffic.
Auto = no leg ache in traffic
Manual = smash the red line
Auto = changes gear when it feels like
My point is both types of boxes have their advantages. It’s a personal preference to what you sant to drive. I drove a 535d which was auto and it was incredible but I also drove a manual version which was also incredible
Nowadays automatics change (when you press the gas pedal to the floor) at the best shifting point for maximum power and effiiciency, so your point is kinda wrong.
Has anyone driven a manual in traffic? Or is it only the manual haters that drive a manual in traffic once and since they suck at it they find it a huge chore… Leg sore? You driving a 66 Chevy pickup in traffic? Or are you a wuss.. Why would a clutch make your leg sore.. Driving stick is second nature. You don’t think about it or notice it. Even in traffic. Unless you guys are bad at it.. Then I can see why you would whine.
Counterpoint. I’m not saying manuals aren’t more fun, they are. My Subaru would be worse with an auto box but it suits this one just fine.
Manuals = Drift.
I really agree on this.
Well take a low horsepower manual RWD with an open diff, and then take a very similar car, with an auto. The manual would be easier to toss into the drift thanks to your ability to kick the clutch whenever you want and let the rear end loose. While with an auto, those who have perfected drifting in a manual, will end up over-revving the car and driving in circles, due to not being familiar with how it is done. You can press the brakes a bit while doing a burnout, but that doesn’t let them loose while you’re moving.
Never gonna own a manual transmission. Why? Id never get to enjoy driving it. Wanna go anywhere in the city i live in? Bumper to bumper traffic. And i cant take it to a race track because there isnt one within 200 miles.
Nah, I’ve changed gears while holding hands with my girlfriend.
This article is completely bs. Why did it got featured? It’s just saying how you like Automatics. Maybe for me Manual cars aren’t ‘satisfying’. Nice generalization Car Throttle.
Am I not a petrolhead if I don’t dislike Automatics? Stupid post.
If you live in a city with well over 10 million people and over a million cars, manual is the worst choice you can have. As much as it’s fun in low populated areas, it’s a regrettable choice in mega cities. Therefore it is a ridiculously stupid idea for me unless there is no traffic.
Yes im aware that they use autos for a more efficient drive but i know i lot of people who have autos and admit they have a mind of their own
