This Is Why Bose's Witchcraft-Spec Suspension Never Became A Thing
That old video of Bose's incredibly flat electromagnetic suspension has done the rounds online plenty of times, but why didn't the system reach production? The guys from CNET explain why, after looking at the incredible technology in action
The last time we saw this technology at work, the question “why are we not funding this?” was posed. The answer is fairly simple: the system was too heavy and too expensive for commercial viability, although elements of the technology were used for the company’s ‘Bose Ride’ seat for truck drivers.

Just had a thought. This is apparently too heavy and gets rid of most feedback you get through the wheel. So basically it’s not much use for conventional cars. BUT, who else thinks this would be perfect for self driving cars? Road feedback isn’t an issue (because you won’t be driving) and weight doesn’t really matter because you won’t be cornering or accelerating hard… I think this system has a future in that regard.
you are forgetting that weight is not just for handling, increasing weight increases fuel consumption and removes acceleration…
Can I get this on my cup-holders?
Suspension so good..even Rolls or Bentley can keep up
they can’t keep up whit a “cheap” citroen C6…
VIP cars and luxuty SUV should apply this,..
Now you can avoid spike strips while running from the cops in your lexus
I think ALOT of people would buy this,
Pretty sure there are millionaires/billionaires out there willing to pay big bucks for this on their own ride.
I’d suggest the writers at CT to get their homework done. Why are we not funding this? Because Mercedes does. It’s called Magic Body Control and it has been available for the past few years with the S-class. An expensive option but it IS commercially available
The suspension doesn’t keep the car level. It moves the planet in relation to the position of the car which gives the illusion that the car remains level.
The LS400 is actually Chuck Norris?
Bose be like “Right, R2, Circle, R1, L2,Down,L1,R1”
