Why A Morning Pre-Work Blast Is The Best Way To Kick Start The Day
Now summer is well and truly over and the weather’s getting all frosty, all I can think of doing when my alarm goes off in the morning is to thump the snooze button and grab just a few minutes more sleep. I’m happy to put off that moment of eschewing the warmth and security of my duvet in favour of the chill of the season for as long as possible.
However, this morning was different. Yes, it was still cold - the mercury was barely above freezing - but the sky was blue and the early day sunshine was beating down on my sleepy home town. It’d be rude not to go for a quick drive before work, wouldn’t it?
The car on my drive wasn’t exactly the obvious choice for a spot of morning hooning, being a great big Range Rover Sport (full review coming soon!). However, with four-wheel drive I was in good shape to deal with the slippery roads, and with 503bhp available from the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet, I wasn’t short of entertainment.
After the morning peace in my neighbourhood was shattered by eight cylinders erupting into life, I headed out into the country and soon found my favourite set of local twisties. It takes a while for you to get used to being sat so high while accelerating so quickly - 0-62mph takes five seconds dead in the Sport - but this tall, heavy SUV makes for a surprisingly effective back-road stormer. The steering is quick, and it’s flatter than you’d expect in the corners.
I knew I didn’t have long to hot foot it back home and jump on my train down to CT headquarters in central London, so I pulled up for a few snaps, hoisted myself back into the lofty driver’s seat, and tore down the road. I made sure I kept the windows open, making the cabin a little chilly, but filling my lug-holes with glorious V8 noise. It was a fantastic way to start the day, and I arrived at work more invigorated and awake than I’ve been in a good while.
There’s no doubt that the powerful, expensive and luxurious Rangie gave me extra incentive to get my backside out of bed earlier, but I’m certain that this is something I should do more often, be it in our new Suzuki Swift Sport longtermer or my own beloved VW Golf GTI. I’d definitely recommend that you guys give it a go.
