Not content with producing a 740bhp version of the current Mustang, Shelby American has cooked up something even madder.

It’s the Wide Body Shelby Super Snake concept, and we really, really hope it goes into production.

Shelby hasn’t said for sure, but it’s likely to be given the green light - after all, the company produced a widebody kit for the fifth-gen Mustang. That car was all about straight-line performance, but the idea behind this one is a bit different. Shelby American president Gary Patterson has this to say:

“The current Shelby Super Snake emphasizes handling much more than the last model, which required a new approach with this concept. Instead of being optimized for straight line performance, the Super Snake wide body concept provides more grip on all four corners. It was designed to give drivers a serious competitive edge on the road course.”

It’s been given upgraded coilover suspension and “enormous” Brembo brakes, while everything under the bonnet is as-per the regular Super Snake. That means 740bhp from a supercharged 5.0-litre V8.

New rear quarter panels and front wings with flared arches go along with the widened track, making for one mean looking car. I strongly suspect it’d just punch you in the face if you dared to make a Mustang crash joke in its earshot.

Meanwhile, if sir would like his freedom in a more practical package, there’s also a new F-150 Super Snake, revealed by Shelby at the same time as the widebody kit. It’s packing the same 740bhp supercharged V8 as the Mustang, complemented by lower suspension and new bodywork. Just 150 will be made for the 2017 model year, available through a handful of US Ford dealers.
