Will The Ferrari LaFerrari Successor Be Worth The Wait?

It was 2013 when Ferrari first unleashed the ambitiously-named V12 hybrid LaFerrari. We’ve been waiting patiently since then for a successor to come along and continue the lineage of flagship Ferraris kicked off by the 288 GTO and continued by the F40, F50, Enzo and LaF. Now, though, it looks like there won’t be much more of a wait for a LaFerrari successor.

Speaking with Top Gear, vice chairman of the company (not to mention son of Enzo himself), Piero Ferrari said “Every ten years, we have one,” in reference to the company’s ultra-exclusive halo cars. “Something will come. I know what it is,” he continued, in a not particularly surprising revelation for one of the most senior figures at Ferrari.

The mathematically adept of you will note that it’s been 11 years since the LaFerrari arrived (oh my, we’re SO OLD), which means that, by Piero’s own numbers, we’re now a year overdue for the next arrival in this rarefied bloodline. Presumably, then, we’re not far off a reveal – could we see the new car by the end of the year?

There are plenty of spy photos floating around of what’s purported to be the new model, with the prototype sporting a super-low front end and a big rear wing (something Ferrari’s only just resorted to adding to its road cars in the form of the SF90 XX Stradale).

Most rumours point to it using a pumped-up version of the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 found in both the 296 and the 499P Le Mans Hypercar, and the integration of a hybrid system is basically a foregone conclusion.

And that’s about all we can glean right now, with Ferrari the company unsurprisingly keeping its cards close to its chest. If Ferrari the man’s comments are anything to go by, though, we hopefully won’t have to wait too long before we find out a whole lot more.
