For us, the want has been seriously strong with every single car we’ve seen Singer Vehicle Design put together, but the Californian firm’s latest effort is on another level. It’s another 964-generation 911, the result of a ‘Dynamics and Lightweighting Study’ (DLS) “undertaken with Williams Advanced Engineering and other technical partners.”

You might remember seeing the engine for the first time a few months ago. Developed by Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) with input from legendary Porsche engineer Hans Mezger, it’s an air-cooled flat-six derived from a 1990 3.6-litre Porsche unit. It now has titanium con rods, aluminium throttle bodies and an exhaust made from titanium and super exotic Inconel - the latter being a material more commonly seen in Formula 1. Power is at 493bhp, and it’ll rev beyond 9000rpm.

The rest of the car is just as exquisite. The 18-inch wheels are forged magnesium, and are wrapped in bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The Hewland six-speed manual gearbox is also largely made from magnesium, and features a beautiful exposed linkage. Bespoke dampers have been supplied by EXE-TC, while the car’s Brembo monobloc callipers squeeze carbon composite discs.

Then there’s the shape of the thing. Yes, it’s still instantly recognisable as a 964, but WAE had optimised all the aero using CFD modelling, including the underbody stuff you can’t see.

The weight has been kept down to a minimum thanks to the extensive use of materials like magnesium, titanium and carbon fibre in the car’s construction, meaning this 964 tips the scales at 990kg. Yep, under a tonne, 493bhp with modern, top-shelf brakes, suspension and tyres. It’s a tantalising prospect, isn’t it?

The ‘Absinthe’-coloured machine you see here is the first car to come out of the Williams collaboration, commissioned by multiple Singer owner Scott Blattner. With the results of DLS now being made available exclusively to Singer’s small group of clients, more cars like this will almost certainly follow.

All will be built in a new facility at the Williams HQ in Oxfordshire, UK.

Awesome to see cars like this still being produced, and improved in ways as well. Also, that shifter.
