Witness This 1000hp Supra-Engined GT86 Pull Off The World's Fastest Drift
We knew we'd be here eventually. There would be people (like us) who liked the Toyota GT86, and think it's great to drive. Then there would be a few folks who reckoned 197bhp and 151lb ft wasn't enough in a 1200kg rear-drive sports car, and needed more power. That's okay, some people require a bigger engine to make up for, uh, certain deficiencies in other areas. Ahem.
But there's no doubting the stones of this chap: meet Polish motorcycle racer and Formula Drifter Jakub Prygonski. Jakub needs his GT86 to have 1000hp, so it can do stuff like this:
Instead of the 2.0-litre flat-four in the standard Toyobaru, Jakub's competition drifter runs the tuner's best friend: a Toyota Supra 2Jz six-cylinder, boosted to four-figure power.
And so, what happens when you take your one-thousand horsepower rear-drive sports car away from a tight, twisty, technical circuit, and to a bit open space instead? Imagine the extra run-up room. You could, just maybe, pull off Officially The Fastest Drift In History. Welcome to that video.
Entry speed to the coned-off turn? 159mph. Exit speed? 135mph. And despite the biggest potential tank-slapper ever, Jakub catches it, spearing across the tarmac of Airport Biala Podlaska near Warsaw, Poland. Hat-tip to you, Jakub. If you're going to give the good ol' GT86 more power, put it to good use.
