World's Luckiest Man Walks Away With Only Minor Cuts After Two Trucks Sandwich His Pickup

A massive pile-up on the Interstate 84 in Oregon last weekend resulted in 27-year-old Kaleb Whitby being sandwiched between two trucks.

The incident - which involved around 100 people and 50+ vehicles on the morning of Saturday 17th January - was Whitby’s first accident and one that will deserve him the title as ‘world’s luckiest man’.

As you can see from the images, his heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado is a shadow of its former self. By some miracle, however, the pickup truck not only saved Whitby’s life, it protected him from any serious injury; he was reported as walking away from the scene with a couple of minor cuts to his right hand.

The reason for the pile-up is believed to be the result of black ice, fog and heavy winds. In Whitby’s case, he smashed into the back of a jack-knifed trailer which span his car round.

The engine of his pickup truck immediately stalled, meaning it was only a matter of time until another impact. A second truck slammed into Whitby, pinning his Chevy’s steering column into his hip. After cutting his seatbelt with a pocket knife, Whitby shouted for help and was freed from his three-foot-wide prison by other motorists.

After being freed, Whitby then began helping others who were injured. Hero.
