Yes, The New Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Really Will Cost You £60k

When we drove the Alfa Romeo 4C recently, we found a car that’s brilliant to drive, but heavily flawed. All that makes the £51,500 price tag rather difficult to stomach. But that’s nothing compared to the new Spider version, which has just gone on sale in the UK at a price of (are you sitting down?) £59,500. Yep, it’s near-as-makes-no-difference £60,000.

This mind-boggling increase over the coupe results in one pricey car - you could instead buy the new Boxster Spyder for just over £60k, or a £53k Boxster GTS and pocket the difference.

Still, the carbon-tubbed Alfa is so ardently left-field it’s arguably tricky to compare to one of Stuttgart’s sports cars, and the 4C Spider is perhaps even prettier than the coupe.

The Spider features a removal fabric roof which can be stowed away, with an optional carbonfibre item available soon, should you want to drive your 4C all year round. Further separating it from the coupe is a new aluminium rollover section, and a carbonfibre windscreen surround.

So, if you had £60k burning a hole in your pocket and had to spend it on the Porsche Boxster Spyder or the Alfa, where would your cash go?
