You Can Drive The 628mph Bloodhound LSR… For £12m
If you think you’ve got what it takes to drive a land-speed record car, you have the rare opportunity to do so. So long as you have £12m to bring to the table.
The Bloodhound LSR project, which has previously been driven to 628mph during testing in 2019, is looking to raise funds as looks to break the land speed record of 763.035mph set way back in 1997.
In a Q&A published on its website, Bloodhound LSR stated: “We are extremely confident; the team, track, and car have already been proven during our high-speed testing (where we achieved 628mph). The only hurdle that stands in our way is raising the required funding; we hope that this new opportunity will attract the investment/sponsorship required”
Bullish about its chances, the team says the “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” will require someone who has “what it takes to drive a car at over 800mph” with the caveat of also providing the necessary funding. That may limit the pool of potential drivers to the absolute elite, though we’d love to see Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton have a crack at it.
That said, anyone can apply, though will be scrutinised by Andy Green OBE - the man who set that 1997 record with ThrustSSC. Talk about being qualified.
Those with the cash that either don’t fancy trying to crack 800mph or don’t have the required ability, can still pitch in. It says the driver search will not impact its attempts to raise funding elsewhere, and could “be very attractive to some potential sponsors and media companies.”
Bloodhound LSR is going on a roadshow tour of the UK from 8-14 November to drum up some additional support, including stops at Silverstone and Caffeine & Machine.
