You Can Drive The Lamborghini Lanzador Five Years Early, Sort Of
It’s going to be some time before the Lamborghini Lanzador heads to the roads. The Italian manufacturer says the ‘Ultra GT’ - perhaps an awful way to describe an electric pseudo-coupe SUV - won’t be in production until 2028. However, you can drive it now, just not in any way you’d expect.
Available now on Roblox, a free download which is effectively a sandbox for both hobbyist developers and brands keen to throw marketing in the face of children to make minigames for, is Lamborghini Lanzador Lab.
This ‘experience’, as it’s referred to by the Italian manufacturer, will allow you to interact with the Lanzador concept revealed earlier this year as well as speccing it with different wheels and colours. Further still, you’ll be able to compete in time trials with your own customised car.
It’s free to play, but there’s a handful of limited-edition accessories to buy for your avatar with microtransactions. Of course.
These include racing helmets, backpacks and hats, although most unusual of the lot is a bull head. Only three of these are available and each costs 1.5 million ‘Robux’, the digital currency used in Roblox. How that converts to real money depends on your platform and location but, here in the UK and checked on an Xbox Series X, that works out to about £13,200. Holy [redacted].
In fairness, buying that will also get you an invite to Lamborghini’s HQ in Sant’Agata Bolognese where you’ll get a tour of the museum and the Lanzador itself.
Adding the Lanzador to Roblox before any kind of bonafide racing game seems a strange move on the face of it. However, Lamborghini highlights the fastest growing age group on the platform are aged 17-24 - so you get the impression they’re planting a seed for the few among those with a business idea that’ll make them millions by the time the real SUV is in production.
