You Can Use Augmented Reality To Spec Your Ferrari In The Showroom

We all spend hours online configuring cars, but this new technology uses a tablet's rear-facing camera to show different wheel types, paint colours and a variety of other options while the car is in front of you

We’re big fans of augmented reality, and its real world applications are exciting. Mini’s just revealed its hilarious AR goggles, and now Ferrari is trialling these AR tablets in dealerships in Australia and Japan.

The way it works is that an app looks through the rear-facing camera. When pointed at one of five Ferrari models, the app allows you to swap its wheels, change paint colour, and get under the hood to find out more about its development. It’s pretty cool technology that allows salesmen to influence you while you muck about with your new Prancing Horse. It might seem like a bit of a gimmick - you’re still seeing it on a screen, just like online configurators, after all - but it’s a cool use of the technology, and an interesting way of getting customers into showrooms.
