Your Inner 10-Year-Old Will Love The Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition

We're not even going to bother pretending that we're not excited about this 50th Anniversary partnership between Chevy and Hot Wheels

Summon your inner 10-year-old: the order books are almost open for Chevrolet’s Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition.

Built to celebrate “50 years of partnership, performance innovation and design,” the ‘edition’ is actually a $4995 upgrade package suitable for the Camaro 2LT and 2SS coupes and convertibles. It goes on sale on February 1.

There’s no extra power but the visual upgradery stretches far and wide. The paint is a special colour called Crush, while the twin Satin Graphite stripes have Silver Ice Metallic accents. The effect is meant to mimic Hot Wheels track.

The side sill extensions and lower skirts at both ends are finished in matching Satin Graphite, as are the 20-inch milled-face forged alloy wheels. Behind those are special orange-painted brake calipers. The grille has been slightly redesigned, the tail light clusters darkened and the Chevrolet ‘bow tie’ logos are black.

Inside and out you’ll find plenty of Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary badging, including on the flat-bottomed steering wheel and the illuminated door sill plates. You can hardly miss the soaking of orange trim and orange stitching throughout the leather-clad interior. Even the seat belts are orange. The floor mats? Orange stitching.

Todd Christensen, marketing manager for the Camaro, said:

“Since the Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition debuted last October, we’ve been overwhelmed with the passionate interest from Camaro and Hot Wheels fans alike.

“We’re thrilled that the Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition will soon be hitting the streets, building upon an already formidable lineup that includes the Camaro Redline Edition and Camaro ZL1 1LE.”

There has been a general upsurge in the levels of interest in Hot Wheels products and history. This rare Volkswagen Microbus was valued at £120,000, while a partnership with Star Wars has spawned a few oddities.

The first Hot Wheels vehicle released in 1968 was the Custom Camaro, part of the original 16 cars. It was offered in about 20 colour ways, with Gold and Creamy Pink the rarest and most valuable.

So they made a full sized version of the miniature version of the full sized version car they already had?
