Why gran turismo 4 was the best ps2 racing game and an overall review

A side note if i don’t have proper punctuation it’s because carthrottle classifies brackets and commas as inappropriate just to let you know. now to start off this article I what to tell you but first some backstory why i’m writing it in the first place. As a kid my first game console was a slim ps2 technically it’s the ds but the ds is a handheld so i’m just going to say it was the ps2 . I still remember first seeing the ps2 in box aI was stunned by the graphics i knew that ps2 games looked way better then ds games and I had played ps2 games at my friend’s house but this game looked beautiful for 2006 it looks immediately i put in a driver name and started to play. and then i looked at the car selection and I was amazed by the selection of cars. A couple of round into the game and we finally reach the 24 hour le mans race we used the minolta toyota 88c-v and put the gt4 in b spec mode and waited 24 hours i actually recently finish the 24 hour race le mans race waited 24 hours i actually recently finish the 24 hour race le mans race

When we came back to the game the next day we found out that we won so we exited the menu to claim are prize that is the f1 car but we were met with the red clock and from now on whenever we put in gran turismo 4 we were always met with the red clock on that console. Fast forward to 2016 and iI bought a new ps2 i put in my old gt4 and it worked I had 3 gt4 games and they all worked I was so happy that i got to play the game that got me into cars.

so that’s one reason why the second being granturismo sport. I after the ps2 was super outdated we bought are self a xbox 360 and I regret that because i couldn’t play gran turismo 5
I had forza but i didn’t have gran turismo but fast forward to 2016 i bought myself a ps4 and I played a lot of racing games but then granturismo sport came out and i was super excited and I bought t when preorder said it would come out in oct but then it was delayed a year. But granturismo sport recently came out and i have been playing that.

The third reason why is one of the comments that was one one of my memes i won’t reveal said commenter but his comment reeds out “I still play gran turismo 4 in ps2.” and my response was “still play gt4 too” And that really made my think about writing this article but i’m getting of topic so let’s get to the article

The graphics

The graphics in gran turismo 4 are stunning for ps2 they are so good that some of the car models were carried over to gran turismo 5. The reason for such good graphics is that back then ps2 game devs were making 480p hd games and there were a handful of games that were hd and gt4 was one of them.

gameplay

Gran turismo 4 had probably some of the best gameplay of the time in my opinion
It was so real some people didn’t like it. And i get why there is a 90 percent chance that you hit something or go off track in the game but i liked that because that made you try and race better and slow down at things like turns even though my child self didn’t understand that and went crashing into walls at 170 mph and spinning out ai. One bad thing though is that there is no damage to your car. Oh you causualy crash into a wall at 200 mph? Its fine dont even worry about it there’s not even a scratch on your car.

The campaign mode part 1 of 2 the menu selection or resorts

The campaign mode in gt4 is probably my favorite champion mode when it comes to racing games. The menu also called resorts is really nice and organized instead of a traditional way of the menu being one big menu consisting of car dealers and races gt4 menu has a cursor and all the races and car dealers separate for example if i wanted to go to the used car dealer i would just have to move the cursor to the used car dealer all the way to the bottom and click used car dealer and i know this is pretty basic explanation but think of it as using windows windows 7 being gt4 and windows 10 being the regular menu. In my opinion i like gt4 approach to the menu more than the traditional method.

The campaign part two of two races

The thing I like the most in the races is how original they are examples being japan championship, run like the wind, and the 24h le mans race i feel that these race ideas are very original and a blast to play.

The tracks

I loved the track selection in gran turismo 4 whether that be imaginary tracks or made up tracks I always thought they were really good design. All tracks in gt4 felt real such as my favorite track seattle circuit

The car selection

I have saved the best for last the car selection. You can’t talk about gt4 without pointing out that it has over 700 cars whether those cars are le mans cars or a daihatsu midget. All these cars add some sort of character to the game besides what racing game allows you to drive 100 year old cars well gt4 does.
