#rallycarchallenge Ford Escort MK3
For my attempt at this hashtag challenge, I’ll use the underappreciated Mk3 Ford Escort.
Powertrain/Drivetrain will be kept in the Ford family, by using the 2.3L EcoBoost I4 engine usually found under the bonnet of the 2016 Ford Focus RS (or EcoBoost Mustang). The stock turbo will be exchanged in favor of a 36mm Garrett GT2860RS twin scroll turbine (with boost controller), stock internals will be replaced by a set of MAHLE forged pistons and a dry sump fitted The whole package will be assembled by M-Sport.
A 5 speed sequential transmission will be installed with gearing limited to ~150 mph. The Escort will be converted to AWD with the use of the Focus’ front and rear drive axles (with some strengthening of course), a carbon-fiber driveshaft will link those together.
Braking will be sorted by a set of 4 piston AP Racing vented disc brakes on all 4 corners, also with a hydro handbrake for those tricky tight corners. Suspension will be sorted by a set of 4 Ohlins ALR TPX adjustable coilovers.
Interior will be gutted, a full roll cage with chassis gussets installed, The stock seats will be replaced by a pair of butt hugging Recaro Pro Racing SPA seats, 6 point Wilans harnesses installed.
The Bonnet, doors and rear hatch will be made of carbon-fiber while the fenders, bumpers and the roof will be made of fiberglass. The guards will be widened to accommodate the new 245/45/R17 Michelin TZ tires on all 4 corners.
Final product
415 hp @7500
550 lb-ft @3580
1150 kg
150 mph
