Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment
Alright, a little background. About two months ago, my friend purchased a 1995 mx-5. The car wasn’t running and since I already had my 1996 mx-5 I decided he could test some of my working parts on his car to see what was wrong (he wasn’t getting spark). We tried my CAS, coil pack, wires, spark plugs and finally my throttle position sensor. He still wasn’t getting spark, but when I reinstalled the TPS, the car started lurching and stalling.
I contacted Greg from The Car Passion Channel and he said that you need to adjust it by rotation the TPS using the lower nut as a pivot point. But he also said that you need to use a multimeter to measure continuity or something.
Anyways, I just removed it and tucked away the sensor because it was making the ride horrendous. Of course the car threw a code because of the sensor, but the car went right back to how it was before I even messed with the TPS. But that check engine light is glaring at me every time I turn the key and Margaret (the car) is asking me to fix her.
I still have the TPS, I just don’t know how to adjust it. Do any of you have any advice? I have no idea how to do this, but I would love to learn. If not, I will have to bring my miata to the shop for the very first time!! 😰
Thank you

I had some trouble with mine, i just made the bolts for the TPS centered on both sides and mine runs perfect now.
Thanks for the advice!
