How much fun can you have on the track with a Fiat Punto? A lot!
Introduction
Since three years I own a Fiat Punto. Of course I had to modify the car so new rims and tires, cold air intake, lowered, audio system,… Were added to the car. I went to an Italian car event for the first time (first car meet) and was immediately hooked. So I went to another Italian car event at Assen, Netherlands. At this event I took the Punto to the track for the first time. This wasn’t my first track experience though, I had two racing lessons at Zolder, Belgium before.
This was in a BMW E36 race car, complete with roll cage and everything you could imagine. After the first time I was so impressed by the experience I went and did it a second time some months later. But racing like this costs a lot of money, especially for a student… With no money for a project car, the Punto is my only way of going on a track. This is were I did some track time at Assen.
The experience
Although the car only has 70 horsepower, the handling and braking are quite good considering it is “just a Fiat Punto”. Very nervous I went out on the track and I didn’t expect what happened next. I wasn’t the slowest car! Pushing the ca quite hard I managed to overtake some people and put in some nice lap times! The session was only 20 minutes but I never had so much fun in a car. I made a best off video of the event:
Plans
After the track experience, I was hungry for much more! This is why I plan on upgrading the car further. Currently the plan is:
- New Exhaust
- Small spoiler
- Brembo brake discs and EBC Green stuff pads (front)
- Strut bar
- Stiffer engine mounts
I plan on installing these mods in July, in August there is a track day at Spa Francorchamps, Belgium for “slower cars”. Also I’m planning on making a trip to the Nordschleife with some friends.
You don’t need much horsepower to have fun, having a faster car is always nice but I’m very happy with my car. Hours of work have gone into it and that is what makes it special!
If you have some feedback on anything, please let me know!
Thanks for reading/watching!

Great post… I want an abarth one for college 😂😂 145hp tuned to 185
The punto abarth is really nice! Thanks
Back in the day, on a country road in Poland, I saw a sedan overtaking a truck which was driving slightly on the shoulder to let people pass. At that same time, the sedan was overtaken by a Fiat Punto. I remember being wowed. I’ll always have love for the Punto.
