Ford might make a convertible pickup
It’ll be aiming at the Jeep Gladiator
Ford has pitched its upcoming Bronco remake squarely at the Jeep Wrangler. It will feature many of that truck’s most popular features, including removable doors and a convertible roof. But Jeep made their offering into a pickup, and Ford already has several great pickups in production today. So Ford has filed for a patent to make a pickup that will have a removable hardtop.
This patent looks like it would best fit the Ford Raptor, but it might be further confirmation towards a new Bronco pickup.
Ford says that the system would have roof cap assemblies making use of self-aligning mounting systems, which would make the roof extremely easy to remove - far easier than Jeep’s system. The assembly would have a sliding rear window, as well as incorporating a windshield heater and rear body structure.

This is coming from someone who doesn’t like the vast majority of convertibles, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I think something like the F-150 shown looks incredibly strange without a top. That, and even though the market changes, the last two convertible trucks I remember (Dakota Convertible and Chevy SSR) didn’t sell too well.
I think we should have learned from the Dakota convertible. Truck convertibles don’t work, I wouldn’t call an ssr a proper truck, it’s more of an HHR Ute Hybrid thing.
What the hell is this.
That’s a custom truck, Ford had nothing to do with it
But Ford specifically filed a removable hardtop patent, the photos are just an example.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
I just want a Ford F-150 Lightning again.
Kill it with fire
