Pros and Cons of Need for Speed; Payback
Need for speed payback has been released for almost a month now, although I am aware many of you haven’t gotten the chance to play it yet. Here I have compiled a list of pros and cons (my opinion of course).
Pros:
Handling;
Handling has much improved over the previous game, and I can say that it makes it much more enjoyable to play. The live handling tuning is also a great addition to the handling department. I would say that there are some drawbacks, however. Drifting through corners is faster then gripping the road, although I’m sure this will be addressed in a future update. A minor nitpicking thing is that on any given car, there are only 3 different handling aspects you can adjust, making it difficult to make a master build.
Speed Cards System;
While not for everyone, I think the speed cards system is an interesting, and awesome aspect of Payback. Since the scene is set in a Las Vegas setting, it gives a vibe of casino card game. The perks allow you to change other aspects of your car, which make up for the lack of bar handling tuning. It also makes you work for that 399 level car.
Derilects, and Open World;
One thing that really struck me the minute I started playing, all the way until I finished the story, was the beautiful open world. The day and night cycle is nearly seamless, and the world is big and bright. The derilects are also a welcome new feature, as they provide a fun time trying to find the chassis and parts all around the map.
Customization;
Payback does an exceptional job in the customization department. Headlights and tail lights, fenders, bumpers, and even options such as bags, neon, nitrous color, horn, and tire smoke are all neat additions.
Cons:
Levels;
The levels of cars are mostly straightforward, but some cars are needlessly and frustratingly locked at 299, which makes progression difficult.
Missing cars;
Payback will most definitely add more cars through the game’s lifetime, but until then we can only dream of how we’ll customize our missing cars.
Characters and Voice Acting;
This one is mostly my opinion, but the main characters are REALLY annoying. Mac may be an exception, for the most part, but Tyler and Jess frustrate me to no end.
Body Kits;
Some body kits are impossible to put on without glitching the game. That’s right, impossible. For the 180sx, 2 of the body kits are impossible to put on. The front and rear fenders are restricted by the side skirts, and the side skirts are restricted by the front and rear fenders. This is just laziness from ea, and we can expect a fix to this unfortunate problem.
In conclusion, Need for Speed payback is an amazing game, but like anything, it has its drawbacks. Does it deserve the horrible reviews it got? Absolutely not. Some people don’t understand the magic of a Need for Speed game. I hope this review was helpful to any of you, and thank you for reading this. Happy Holidays all!
