Dream Car: Peugeot 406 Coupe

It’s been a while since I last posted one of my dream cars, but that doesn’t mean the drooling has stopped.
A week ago I was just roaming through the classifieds when I spotted this.

It’s a 2003 Peugeot 406 Coupe - which is entirely different from the 406 sedan. You see, this was drawn-up by famous Italian design house Pininfarina which is known for a few Ferrari designs and the odd car here and there whenever a company needed a bit of Italian flair.
The front looks like a 306 with downsized headlights and grille, but looking over the whole car you notice the styling is more than just a chopped sedan - after seeing this, I looked into other cars that were made into coupes which lead me to Volvo, which in turn lead me to write that post about disliked car designs.

Here at the rear the Italian design is the most prevalent - a high scooping rear reminiscent of the Ferrari 408, 365 and 512. The small buttress around the rear windscreen is a subtle feature.
Thankfully this one is black, and nicely polished, giving you a good indication of the shape of the car.

The interior is a red/black combination and like all cars in NZ, the leather just needs a few restoring products to bring back to life.
Yes, that is a 5-speed manual and the dealer only wanted $6,000 for this. Given its 110,000Km’s on the odometer, this is seriously good value for money.

This particular 406 Coupe is powered by the 3-litre V6 producing 207HP, not the troublesome 2.2-litres. A quick search online revealed that owners of this car are in love with them, and the only issues are that the timing belts need frequent changing and there may be a common issue with injectors.
Being FF, the weight distribution is likely to go out the window compared to its FR rivals.

Unsurprisingly, this car sold rather quick - like all my dream cars, I was considering selling the R34. If I had the 406, I would keep it stock apart from a better set of OEM-replacement shock absorbers and brake rotors.
