The Center Exhaust Pipes on the C7 Corvette Are Special

The lads at the YouTube channel Drive 615 recently did a silly video of water pong with their Corvette Z06. To do that, they set up cups of water by the tailpipes, while putting a table tennis ball in each of the four exhaust pipes. However, something interesting was pointed out in the video, as seen below.

In the video, they point out that the exhaust pipes in the center were not doing much, as the balls would stay there even as the car started up. Curious to find out why, I asked YouTuber and Corvette Guru CarGuy11. Here is what he had to say.

“[The] outside 2 are basically straight through with no restriction. The inner ones go through muffler and are activated when the flaps close in the outer pipes. This is in stealth mode when exhaust is forced through muffler. Also exhaust flows the path of least resistance.”

So in super-simple terms, the car is somewhat straight-piped until the mode is changed. To learn more, CarGuy11 has done a demonstration of all the different exhaust modes on his C7 Stingray.

Also, CarGuy11 is on Instagram, so go check him out. He also does podcasts!

Cody's Car Conundrum

Cool! I’m glad you took the time to write this article. Never knew there was a difference in the 4 tipped Exhaust of the C7 before.

That game… I never owned it, but one of my best friends did. My favorite memory of it was playing it at his house on Thanksgiving. We collectively progressed through much of the game.
