The story behind the legendary Ferrari killer

If company isn't good at making racecars, and winning races, the company cannot make good road legal cars, and it can't win the hearts of customers

Back in the day, there was no internet. And there was no video. So it was hard to make a car to win a race in a different country. But what about Ford. Well, they wanted to make a car that will be good, at the other side of the world. Here’s a story.

The beginning

Mr. Ford wanted to buy Ferrari in 1960’s. In his mind, if he could we win races, he could win hearts of the customers. So he wanted to buy Ferrari. No not the car, but the whole company. Enzo was happy since he could get more money, therefore make more racecars. However last moment he decided Ford isn’t worthy enough. And that’s when it all began

The car and the development.

Soon Mr. Ford was very very very angry. He said to his team:

Build me a car that will outrun Ferrari at LeMans. Do it now!

And Ford built a car. It had a 7.0 V8 and that was short of cylinders. Ferrari had a V12. But Ford believed that that was their secret weapon. And they built a car with a help of a small British workshop. However, the car was bad. It was spinning his wheels. No not when you start, but it was spinning it’s wheels at 250 kph. This was bad so they turned to Caroll Shelby for help. He agreed to fix a car but first, he said he has to make a confession.

The car you made is simply sh!t

He fixed it. And the car had two secret weapons. First was speed. It was the first racecar to hit 320 kph. Also, you could do a lap using only 4th and 5th gear. Unlike the Ferrari that used 3rd, 4th, and 5th. That made a car a lot more reliable. Also, the car went through a computer simulator. Today that’s normal but then it was considered witchcraft. Caroll said:

Ferrari's a's is mine

Soon in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 Ford won at LeMans. That made it one of the most legendary racecars ever to hit the track.

Modern tribute

50 years later Ford GT won again, defeating Ferrari. It might have become a V6 Turbo, but the victory, that’s all that matters

Spinning its wheels at 250kmph? That’s incredible! I didn’t know of any car that could do that until the Regera came along, and that’s 50 years later.
