2.5tdi i5 85/103kw from audi 100 a6 c4 or volvo s60 s70 s80 v70 I 850 or even D5 (2.4 120kw) automatic gearboxes btw are reliable and require no service;)
If you are going for 1.9tdi then choose the 130pd or even 150pd one they are muuuch more responsive than 90 or 110 direct injection ones;)
IF your engine bay is big enough, the why not the V6 tdi but they are not reliable I heard a lot.. :(
I don’t think how I’d fit the longitudinal engine into a FWD transverse chassis, I’ll look for the 130 one tho, for now the 110 is the most secure option because it’s cheap and in a car that weighs 900 kg should fly

And how about v6?
VR6 is a good option too but would understeer a bit and probably don’t have money for it. Also heard from my friend who had a Mk3 VR6 Golf that they break a bit.

As a Brazilian, an AP 1.8 turbocharged. Maybe the 2.0 TSI (Jetta) when the budget is good.
