Should Porsche Build A Sporty Macan-Based Hot Hatch?

There are those in the car world who believe that any car made by Porsche that isn’t a 911 is a crime against the great German marque. Unfortunately for those people, there are thousands of rich housewives cruising around town in their Cayennes, and with the introduction of the Macan baby SUV, Porsche is hoping to tap into an even bigger chunk of the school run market.

Another potential offshoot the Macan opens up is a family hatchback. Take the baby SUV formula and shrink it further still into a Ford Focus-sized runabout, and that would open up the brand to even more consumers. This might sound like sacrilege, but Theophilius Chin’s rendering proves that it could look pretty decent.

What’s more, is that the Macan has been well-received as a driver’s car. You’ve got the front-engined all-wheel drive setup that would make it perfectly practical, while the standard Macan’s 2.0-litre four-pot makes a healthy 234bhp. That would put it on a par with hot rivals performance-wise, but a sportier S model with the 3.0-litre V6 producing 335bhp would make this a supercar-bothering monster, and an arch-rival to the Mercedes A45 AMG megahatch.
